Dr. JeanPierre Roth is NonExecutive Independent Member of the Board of Directors of Swiss Re AG since July 1, 2010. He was Member of the Investment Committee at the Company. He studied Economics at the Universite of Geneva and graduated from Institut Universitaire de Hautes Etudes Internationales with a Ph.D. in Political Sciences in 1975. Mr. Roth was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Geneva Cantonal Bank. In addition, he serves on the Boards of Directors of Nestle SA and Swatch Group AG. Mr. Roth was Chairman of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank from January 2001 until December 2009. He joined the SNB in 1979, where he held various senior positions before he was appointed a Member of the Governing Board in 1996. From 2001, he was a Member and from 2006, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bank for International Settlements, until his retirement from this position in 2009. Mr. Roth also served as Swiss Governor of the International Monetary Fund from 2001 to 2009 and as a Swiss representative on the Financial Stability Board from 2007 to 2009. since 2010.

Elected by the shareholders, the Swiss Re's board of directors comprises two types of representatives: Swiss Re inside directors who are chosen from within the company, and outside directors, selected externally and held independent of Swiss. The board's role is to monitor Swiss Re's management team and ensure that shareholders' interests are well served. Swiss Re's inside directors are responsible for reviewing and approving budgets prepared by upper management to implement core corporate initiatives and projects.
