He joined the group at subsidiary Companhia Siderurgica de Tubarao in Brazil in 1983, where he gained executive experience, including project and operational responsibilities. He graduated as a metallurgical engineer from the Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and has completed several senior management programs at Fundacao Dom Cabral in Brazil and Insead in France.
