Dr. Steven N. Kaplan, Ph.D., is Independent Director of the Morningstar, Inc. He served as a member of our advisory board beginning in 1998 and was elected to the Board in August 1999. Since 1988, he was a professor at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business where he currently is the Neubauer Family Distinguished Service Professor of Entrepreneurship and Finance. He holds a bachelors degree in applied mathematics and economics from Harvard College and a Ph.D. in business economics from Harvard University. He formerly served on the board of trustees of the Columbia Acorn Funds and on the board of directors of Accretive Health, Inc. since 1999.

Morningstar Leadership Team
Elected by the shareholders, the Morningstar's board of directors comprises two types of representatives: Morningstar inside directors who are chosen from within the company, and outside directors, selected externally and held independent of Morningstar.
